Ubisoft E3 2017: Highlights From the Conference
Ubisoft had a short and sweet conference that was a bit touching a couple times. They came onto the stage talking about the developers and their family which was a side of game making you don’t see very often. The showcase was mostly review of games already announced but we did get to see some new footage so that works. The biggest announcement was at the end of course. Here are some highlights from the Ubisoft conference.
After showing some footage of Mario + Rabbids they showed gameplay of the newest entry of Assassin’s Creed. We got a pretty good look at the stealth aspect as well as using a hawk to scout for you. It looks like there is a bit of a looting aspect as well. I really like the setting in this one. Hopefully having a year off from putting out an Assassin’s Creed helps this one become really good.
I completely missed out on the first game but the addition of planes and boats in this open world racing game looks pretty cool and I might be tempted to check it out. The Crew 2 is more about letting you drive everything instead of being super realistic or having all the cars. Which in some cases that’s alright. It looks like there is a little bit of something for everyone here.
I’ve heard nothing but good things about The Stick of Truth and here’s hoping this one does just as well. In the new trailer we get some game footage and a look at a new hero aptly named Call Girl. If you’re a fan of South Park this should be right up your alley. Plus it’s funny to hear people say the title of this game seriously. Which was kind of the point I suppose.
This interesting gem is a collaboration with Elijah Wood’s new studio and a Spectrevision. It’s a new VR game that has you reconstructing a person’s mind that is broken by PTSD and the like. It’s an interesting take on VR and looks like it could be really creepy. Not much else is known about the game but it’s on my radar. Maybe I should get a VR headset soon…
Another pirate game. It’s the year of the pirates apparently. This looks like a more serious take on pirates though and looks pretty neat. You’ll be able to build your own crew and upgrade your ships. Multiplayer is a huge facet of the game.
Of course Far Cry had to be at the conference and this time we get a pretty good look at the gameplay mechanics and the environments. We got a little bit of information about the game last month but it was cool to see it in action.
This was the biggest announcement of the Ubisoft conference. It’s something that many people, myself included, has been waiting for. I do have to say that it’s not what I expected and I’m hoping it doesn’t disappoint but I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. It was pretty touching when Michel Ancel came on stage and got a little teary eyed. Apparently we weren’t the only ones waiting for the this to see the light of day. Beyond Good and Evil 2 is a prequel to the first game is touted as a “online playground”. Not sure what that means but I’m going to check it out anyway.
I think Ubisoft had a pretty good conference even if it was a bit short. And after writing this I can see that there actually was quite a few games there too. With Beyond Good and Evil 2 topping it off you might be hard pressed to say that Ubisoft didn’t do well this E3.
What do you think? Do you think Ubisoft did really good with their show? Are you excited for any of the games?
